Bavaria Weather and Climate
Bavaria Weather and Climate is typically mild. Temperatures are rarely extreme. And I do wish for perfect weather when you travel to Bavaria. With that said, the weather in Bavaria can be unpredictable.
Do prepare for rain, snow, cold and warm weather- depending on the season. Check the Bavaria weather forecast before your trip.
Spring
Spring is the most unpredictable. A surprise cold front or a late season snowfall may occur.
But the new flowers and green on the trees is most beautiful on sunny, warm days.
Many Bavarians show signs of "spring fever" on those first warm, sunny days. They head out for a trip on bikes or rollerblades or even shed their clothes and sun themselves in the parks or by the lakes and rivers. Be aware, the Bavarians have very casual attitudes toward public nudity and some will bare it all to achieve maximum sun exposure after a long, cold winter.
Summer
Summer rains may catch you by surprise, so bring a raincoat or poncho. Otherwise, the days are long and the temperatures are warm and comfortable.
Air conditioning is uncommon in Bavaria and you will find many windows open on houses to let in the warm, clear breezes. There may be a few days in the summer when the temperature gets very warm, but with the many lakes, swimming pools and shady biergartens, you will have no problem staying cool.
The nice thing about summer is that the days are long. In June, the sun rises at about 5:15 am and sets at about 9:20 pm. So there is lots of sun for daytime fun.
Autumn
Autumn is a very beautiful time of year. Late summer temperatures sometime linger and days are often sunny.
Autum is a popular time for festivals. Many towns have harvest festivals and wine fests to celebrate the bounty. Autumn is also the time for the annual Oktoberfest celebration.
November is when winter weather starts to set in. The days are noticeably shorter and skies tend to become gray. The pace seems to slow down for a little while, probably to get ready for the Christmas and skiing season.
Winter
Winter is cold, but it is also a magical time of year in Bavaria.
The towns and the Alps, covered in a fresh white blanket of snow, along with the Christmas decorations and lights bring out the “kid” in me.
Daylight hours are short. In December, The sun rises at about 8am and sets about 4:20pm. So, make sure to plan your daytime activities accordingly.
Bavaria weather to me is just about perfect for walking in the cities and towns, hiking in the alps or touring the many castles and museums. Just remember to arrive prepared for rain or shine, or snow.
We can’t control Mother Nature. So enjoy yourself, whether the weather cooperates or not!
