Finding Cheap Flights To Germany Is The 1st Step To Your Bavarian Adventure
If you don't already live in Germany or in a neighboring European country, finding cheap flights to Germany (or at least discount airfare) is your first step in planning for your trip to Bavaria.
Which is the Best German Airport? If you want to travel in Bavaria, flying to an airport in Bavaria is your best bet. The Munich International Airport is a great option . It is the largest airport in Bavaria and is located in Upper Bavaria which is the southern region of Bavaria - close to the alps.
Another major airport in Bavaria is Nuremburg International Airport, located further north in the Franconian region of Bavaria. It is the second largest airport in Bavaria and also is a great starting point for your travels in Bavaria.
Most flights to Germany arrive at Frankfurt International Airport. It iis located just north of Bavaria, so reaching your destination in Bavaria is easy. It is the largest and busiest airport in Germany. You may find that many of the cheap airfare flights to Germany go to Frankfurt. That’s no problem. Frankfurt is close to Bavaria and you can transfer to a train at the airport, which will take you any major city in Bavaria.
Airports - Flughafen
Fly To Munich
Munich "Franz Josef Strauss" Airport (MUC) or Flughafen München-Franz Josef Strauß, is located 17 miles (28 km) northeast of Munich, Germany, and is a hub for Lufthansa and Star Alliance partner airlines.
Munich Airport is the second busiest airport in Germany (34.73 million in 2008), behind Frankfurt International Airport, and is the 27th busiest airport in the world. In 2007, it was named the "Best Airport in Europe" and fourth-best in the world by Skytrax, the air transport research company.
The S-bahn lines S-1 and S-8 runs directly from the airport to the Munich Hauptbahnhof every 20 minutes and takes about 40 minutes.
Munich can be reached by car, taxi or bus via A-92, which connects to A-9 and Munich's beltway A-99
Fly To Nuremburg
Nuremberg Airport (NUE) or Flughafen Nürnberg is the international airport of the Franconian region and is the second-busiest airport in Bavaria. The airport is ranked 10th among German airports and 67th in Europe. It is also a hub for Air Berlin - Germany's second largest airline.
The Nuremburg Airport is located 5 miles (7 km) north of downtown. The U-2 UBahn line runs from the airport to the city center every 10 to 15 minutes, and takes only 12 minutes to reach the Hauptbahnhof and the nearby Altstadt (historic old town).
Fly to Frankfurt
The most flights to Germany wind up at the Frankfurt International Airport. Frankfurt am Main Airport(FRA), or Flughafen Frankfurt am Main or Rhein-Main-Flughafen is located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 7 miles ( 12 km) southwest of downtown Frankfurt. It is the busiest airport in Germany, the third busiest in Europe and the ninth busiest worldwide in 2008. It also serves the most international destinations in the world.
Frankfurt is the main hub of Lufthansa with the secondary hub at Munich where many medium and long haul routes are available, taking some of the burden off Frankfurt Airport.
I have found that the best bet for finding cheap airfare to Germany will most likely take you to Frankfurt and from there, it is easy to take the train directly from the airport to where ever you want to travel in Bavaria.
Renting a car from a rental car company at the Airport and driving the German Autobahn is a great option. Once you get to your first destination, you can return the car and continue by train travel. It is fun to test drive the German cars and see what driving on the autobahn is really like.
